Team Daniels won their second event of the 2018-19 BC Junior Curling Tour and Team Tardi won their second event of the season (their first of the Junior Tour) last weekend at the Anita Cochrane Memorial at Royal City Curling Club.
After pool play, Team Guidos was the only team (across both the Junior Women’s and Junior Men’s events) to go unbeaten. However, Team Reese-Hansen handed them their first loss in the semifinals, making the final Junior Women’s game a rematch between the top two teams from the 2018 Boston Pizza BC Junior Women’s Championship, Team Reese-Hansen and Team Daniels.
Team Daniels, consisting of Sarah Daniels, Kayla MacMillan, Jessica Humphries and Sarah Loken, came out on top, winning the Junior Women’s final with a 7-3 win over Taylor Reese-Hansen’s team of Catera Park, Jordan Koster and Sydney Brilz.
In the Junior Men’s competition, the semifinals featured Team Colwell against Team Carpenter and Team Tardi against Team Marshall.
Tyler Tardi’s team of Sterling Middleton, Matthew Hall and Alex Horvath (who won the King Cashspiel the weekend prior) went on to win the Junior Men’s event with a 7-2 win in the final over Brayden Carpenter’s team of Matthew McCrady, Zane McLeod and Branden Reimer.
A highlight from the event for the teams in attendance was the presence of Olympic gold medalist and two time World Men’s Champion Marc Kennedy. Kennedy made a presentation to the teams and was available during the weekend for debriefs and coaching.
“This year the Anita Cochrane Memorial was a huge success, [with] 24 teams participating from all over the province, some great curling, and the chance to hear from a curling idol in Marc Kennedy,” said event organizer Steve Kopf. “Thank you to all the athletes and coaches for coming and good luck on your season!”

The next BC Junior Curling Tour event is the Rick Cotter Memorial from October 19 to 21 at Vernon Curling Club.
