The 2018-19 BC Junior Curling Tour got to a start last weekend with the Parksville Junior Cashspiel (also known as the McDonald’s BC Junior Cashspiel), which was hosted by Parksville Curling Club.
Sarah Daniels led her team of Kayla MacMillan, Jessica Humphries and Sarah Loken to an 11-2 win over Everly Royea’s team of Tanis Short, Madeline Britz and Naomi Britz in the Junior Women’s final. This is the second year in a row that Team Daniels has won this event.
In the Junior Men’s final, Hayato Sato’s team of Dawson Ballard, Josh Miki and Troy Chong won the event with a 6-1 win over Jackson Marshall’s team of Mackenzie Ellis, Troy Cowan and Duncan Gallop.
“The Parksville McDonald’s Junior Tour Cashspiel was an outstanding success, with over $7000 up for grabs in prize winnings,” said event organizer Rocky Morrill. “British Columbia’s top junior curlers have been chomping at the bit to get back on the ice after a long summer break. We had great conditions which resulted in top notch competition from BC’s best junior curlers.
“[This was] all possible because of the support from our local sponsors, McDonald’s, Tim Hortons, and the Parksville Benevolent Club. The McDonald’s Junior Tour Cashspiel has become one of BC’s premier events for junior curlers and we look forward to hosting again next year.”
The next BC Junior Curling Tour event is the Anita Cochrane Memorial at Royal City Curling Club from September 21 to 23.
